Erg

Nova Scotia shipwreck the Erg. Halifax Harbour. Bedford basin. Halifax explosion. Dive.

Description

The Erg was a steel steam tugboat built in 1915 that sank three times. First sunk in the Halifax Harbour during the 1917 Halifax Explosion, it was later run down while ferrying workers in 1943 resulting in 19 deaths, and finally was purposefully sunk in 1943 in the Bedford Basin near Roach Cove. The Nova Scotia Exploration Society rediscovered the wreck in 2001 while looking for the Duc D’Anville fleet. The wreckage is located in 15m of water and is fairly intact.
